Through funding to local not-for-profit organizations, beginning in 1999 and ending in March 2011, the Understanding the Early Years (UEY) Initiative helped communities to gather quality, early childhood development information on:
Parents, teachers and decision-makers, and others interested in the well-being of children in each community, then worked together to address issues identified by this information.
The UEY Initiative has enabled communities to better understand the needs of their young children and their families so that communities could strengthen or design local programmes and services to meet those needs.
There will be no further Calls for Proposals – the UEY Initiative ended March 31, 2011
