Sector Council - The Aboriginal Human Resource Council

The Aboriginal Human Resource Council (AHRC) was established in 1998 as a pillar of the Strategy. It is made up of representatives from Aboriginal groups, government, and the private sector. The Council's goal is full participation of Aboriginal people in Canada's labour market.

It works towards this goal by:

• Encouraging unique partnerships with corporate, educational, government and Aboriginal leaders, to increase skills and training opportunities;
• Working to foster greater partnerships between AHRDA holders and the private sector;
• Sharing best practices;
• Looking at ways to develop innovative training and counselling tools for Aboriginal people so they can explore career options and develop paths to reach their goals;
• Conducting education and awareness sessions to highlight Aboriginal recruitment and retention strategies within the private sector.

The Council also runs the Inclusion Network, Canada's number one Aboriginal employment system. It connects employers and educators directly to the Aboriginal talent pool and over 300 Aboriginal Employment Centres. Aboriginal jobseekers can use it to search for work or training opportunities, and post their résumés to a national employer audience.
