Aboriginal Homelessness – Homelessness Partnering Strategy (HPS)

Funding to address the specific needs of the off-reserve homeless Aboriginal population

  • Organizations with a preference given to Aboriginal organizations

Aboriginal Skills and Employment Partnership (ASEP)

Contribution funding for partnership projects promoting increased participation of Aboriginal people in major economic developments.

  • Not-for-profit, incorporated organizations established for the purpose of the ASEP.

We are not accepting applications at this time. This program is sunsetting March 31, 2012.

Aboriginal Skills and Employment Training Strategy (ASETS)

Contribution funding to increase Aboriginal participation in the labour market by helping Aboriginal clients prepare for, obtain, and maintain meaningful employment.

  • Incorporated for-profit and not-for-profit Aboriginal controlled organizations;
  • Aboriginal-controlled unicorporated associations;
  • Indian Act bands and Tribal Councils; and
  • Aboriginal self-government entities.

Apprenticeship Completion Grant (ACG)

Taxable cash grant of $2,000 to registered apprentices upon completion of apprenticeship training and receipt of journeyperson certification.

Individuals who are:

  • a Canadian citizen, permanent resident* or protected person*;
  • out of high school;
  • able to show you have completed an apprenticeship program as a registered apprentice in a designated Red Seal trade; and,
  • able to provide proof that you have received your journeyperson certification in a designated Red Seal trade, on or after January 1, 2009.

Deadline: June 30 of the calendar year after completing the apprenticeship program and receiving journeyperson certification.

Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG)

Taxable cash grant of $2,000 to registered apprentices upon completion of apprenticeship training and receipt of journeyperson certification.

Individuals who are:

  • a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person;
  • out of high school;
  • a registered apprentice with an employer, training trust fund, union training centre, joint apprenticeship training committee, or apprenticeship authority;
  • registered in a designated Red Seal trade in the province or territory where you are a registered apprentice; and,
  • able to show progress within an eligible apprenticeship program by proving that you have successfully completed either the first or second year/level (or equivalent) after January 1, 2007, based on supporting documents.

Deadline: June 30 of the calendar year after completing the apprenticeship program and receiving journeyperson certification.

Canada-European Union Program for Cooperation in Higher Education, Training and Youth – International Academic Mobility Program

Funding to support preparing students for the global economy, transatlantic student mobility, international partnerships, and knowledge exchange.

Cancelled: The 2011 Call for Proposals (CFP) for the Canada-European Union Program for Co-operation in Higher Education, Training and Youth has been cancelled.

Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) – Youth Employment Strategy

Employers, including:

  • not-for-profit organizations;
  • public sector employers; and
  • private-sector employers with 50 or fewer full-time employees across Canada Full-time employees are those working 30 hours or more per week with the employer.

The application period for Canada Summer Jobs 2012 is closed. The deadline for applications was February 29, 2012; applications received or postmarked after the closing date will not be assessed.

Career Focus – Youth Employment Strategy Program

Funding for regional and national projects that create career-related work experiences for post-secondary graduates.

  • Businesses
  • Organizations (including not-for-profit)
  • Public health and educational institutions
  • Band or tribal councils
  • Aboriginal organizations
  • Municipal governments

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Children and Families – Social Development Partnerships Program (SDPP)

Grant funding to national organizations and contribution funding to not-for-profit organizations for projects that help improve the lives of children and families.

  • Not-for-profit organizations who are actively pursuing activities in line with the SDPP's objectives, including registered charities and social enterprises.

A total of 61 communities across Canada that have a significant problem with homelessness have been selected to receive ongoing support to address this issue.

Disability Component – Social Development Partnerships Program (SDPP-D)

Grant and contribution funding for community-based initiatives that address social issues and barriers that face people with disabilities in all aspects of Canadian society.

Funding for community-based projects across Canada that improve accessibility, remove barriers, and enable Canadians with disabilities to participate in and contribute to their community.

  • Small municipalities (with a population under 250,000 as per census data)
  • Small private-sector organizations (fewer than 50 employees and under $5 million in gross revenue per year)
  • Colleges and universities
  • Territorial governments
  • Aboriginal governments

Enabling Fund for Official Language Minority Communities (OLMC)

Funding to enhance the development and vitality of official language minority communities.

  • Not-for-profit organizations that represent the interests of OLMCs and can provide leadership in economic and human development matters on behalf of OLMCs in their province or territory.

Funding for student mobility and academic co-operation projects between Canadian post-secondary institutions and institutions in foreign partnering countries.

Interprovincial Labour Mobility Initiative (ILMI)

Limited funding for activities to help workers practice their occupations wherever opportunities exist.

Regulated professions and associations of regulators are eligible to apply for funding providing the occupation is regulated in at least two jurisdictions.

Labour Market Agreements (LMA)

Government of Canada funding to provincial and territorial governments for labour market programs and services for low-skilled workers and unemployed individuals who are not eligible for Employment Insurance (EI) benefits.

*For-profit enterprises are eligible for funding provided that the nature and intent of the activity is non-commercial and does not generate profit.

New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP)

Grant and contribution funding for projects led or inspired by seniors to make a difference in the lives of others and in their communities.

  • Not-for-profit organizations, coalitions and networks
  • Municipal governments
  • Research organizations and institutes
  • Educational institutions, including school boards, school districts, universities, colleges, CÉGEPs with the agreement of the provincial or territorial government
  • Public health and social service institutions with the agreement of the provincial or territorial government
  • For-profit organizations, provided that the nature and intent of the proposed activity is non-commercial, do not generate profit, and fit within the program objectives
  • Band or tribal councils and other Aboriginal organizations

North American Mobility in Higher Education – International Academic Mobility Program

Funding to improve and increase student preparation for the global economy, North American student mobility, institutional partnerships, and knowledge exchange.

Funding for projects that address national labour market issues faced by an economic sector; or, in some cases, across sectors.

Note: Individuals or individual companies are NOT eligible for funding.

Skills and Partnership Fund (SPF) – Aboriginal

Contribution funding for projects that support government priorities and strategic partnerships to increase Aboriginal participation in the labour market.

  • Incorporated for-profit and not-for-profit Aboriginal controlled organizations;
  • Aboriginal-controlled unincorporated associations;
  • Indian Act bands and Tribal Councils; and
  • Aboriginal self-government entities.

The Call for Concepts (CFC) is now open. The deadline for concept papers is May 17, 2012

Skills Link – Youth Employment Strategy

Funding for projects that help youth facing barriers to employment develop skills, knowledge and experience, and find jobs.

Participants who are:

  • between the ages of 15 and 30 (inclusive) at time of intake/selection;
  • in need of assistance to overcome employment barriers;
  • a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or persons on whom refugee protection has been conferred;
  • out of school;
  • legally entitled to work according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations; and,
  • not in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits.

Recipient, including:

  • businesses;
  • Crown corporations;
  • organizations (including not-for-profit, professional, employer and labour associations);
  • public health and educational institutions;
  • band or tribal councils; and,
  • municipal governments.

Surplus Federal Real Property for Homelessness Initiative – Homelessness Partnering Strategy (HPS)

Offers federal surplus properties for $1 for projects to help prevent and reduce homelessness.

  • Provincial, territorial and municipal governments and agencies, including public health and educational institutions with the agreement of their provincial or territorial government
  • Community-based organizations, and in some cases housing cooperatives with valid not-for-profit charters, with the written agreement of their municipality/town

Work-Sharing ( WS)

Funding to help employers avoid layoffs.

Employers who:

  • are a public or private company or a not-for-profit organization;
  • have been in year-round business in Canada for at least two years;
  • show that the need for reduced hours is unavoidable;
  • show that the work shortage is temporary and unexpected;
  • demonstrate (through a recovery plan) the activities they are undertaking to return to normal working hours by the end of the agreement;
  • will not be undergoing a labour dispute; and
  • have the agreement of the union (if applicable) and employees.
