Understanding the Early Years - Pilot Projects

In 1999, the Government of Canada introduced Understanding the Early Years (UEY) as a pilot research initiative.  The twelve community projects are now completed.

Five communities began to receive funding in 2000-01 and wrapped up in 2005: Prince Albert, SaskatchewanWinnipeg, ManitobaNorth York, Ontario; Southwestern Newfoundland; and Prince Edward Island. 

Seven Communities that began to receive funding in 2002-03 will finish in 2006-07: Hampton, New BrunswickNiagara Falls, OntarioSouth Eastman, ManitobaSaskatoon, SaskatchewanDixie-Bloor, Missasauga, Ontario; Montreal, Quebec; and Abbotsford, British Columbia.
