Emergency Hours of Work

In emergencies, such as an accident or urgent and essential work that needs to be done to equipment, the maximum hours of work may be exceeded.

Within 15 days of the end of the month in which the emergency hours were worked, the employer must submit a written report addressed to the Labour Program regional director for their region and the trade union representing the affected employees.

The report must state the:

• nature of the emergency
• number of employees who worked in excess of the maximum hours of work
• number of additional hours each of them worked
