Bereavement Leave

All federally regulated employees are entitled to paid bereavement leave for the death of an immediate family member, provided you have worked for your employer for three consecutive months beforehand. If you have not, you are entitled to leave without pay.

This benefit enables you to take up to three consecutive working days off. These days begin on the day after the death occurs. For example, if your family member dies on a Monday, you are entitled to take Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday off. But if you normally work from Monday to Friday and the death occurs on a Friday, then you are only entitled to take Monday off given that Saturday and Sunday are already days off.

See Pamphlet #6 – Bereavement Leave for more details.
