Leave

On occasion, we all need to be away from the workplace. Whether it is to re-energize and connect with those we love or to handle family responsibilities or emergencies, it is reassuring to know that the Canada Labour Code provides, federally regulated employers with formal leave benefits.

The following are leave options you can apply for:

  • Annual leave is, quite simply, your vacation leave. Find out how it works...
  • It’s a relief to know you can apply for sick leave when you need it.
  • You can also take advantage of leave for work-related illness and injury if you’re hurt or get sick while on the job.
  • Maternity-related reassignment and leave protects your health as an expecting mother, as well as the health of your unborn child or newborn baby.
  • Maternity and parental leave give you time off—as both natural and adoptive parents—to look after your young charges.
  • Compassionate care leave is there for you if a close family member becomes seriously ill and needs your help.
  • And if an immediate family member dies, you can take bereavement leave to deal with the crisis at home.
  • Reservist leave provides job protection to you as a member of the reserve force while you are absent from your civilian employment to take part in official military operations or annual training.
