Compliance Monitoring

The Pay Equity Program conducts compliance monitoring activities in order to assess the progress that federally regulated employers are making towards implementing pay equity in their establishments.

When a Labour Program Officer visits an establishment, they will ask whether employers have taken steps to meet their pay equity obligations, and obtain general information from employers about their compensation systems. If pay inequities are identified, they will also determine if appropriate measures are being taken to correct them, answer technical questions about pay equity, and provide required assistance to employers.

The Labour Program has the authority to notify the Canadian Human Rights Commission where there are reasonable grounds to believe that an employer is not taking the appropriate steps to implement pay equity.
