This workshop provides union and employer representatives with an opportunity for joint training and informal discussions about the negotiation process. One of the workshop's benefits is that it shows the parties how positive results can be achieved in collective bargaining by focusing on underlying interests and concerns rather than on specific bargaining positions.
The workshop involves a combination of presentations, exercises, negotiation simulations and group discussions. Certain techniques are presented (e.g. brainstorming and consensus decision-making) that make it possible to apply interest-based negotiation concepts to the labour-management relationship.
