We must remove barriers to employment caused by racial discrimination so that we can take full advantage of the abilities and talents of all Canadians.

Racism-Free Workplace Strategy

The Government of Canada's Racism-Free Workplace Strategy (RFWS) promotes fair, inclusive and productive workplaces for all workers. It aims to eliminate barriers faced by visible minorities and Aboriginal peoples in the workplace. It also aims to increase the effectiveness of the Employment Equity Act and Federal Contractors Program.

We can help

The Labour Program of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada can help you find out about tools, workshops and useful information to help build racism-free workplaces. RFWS officials across Canada support the efforts of employers, unions and community groups to remove workplace barriers caused by discrimination and achieve racism-free workplaces.

We provide support

The RFWS provides:

  • awareness sessions on creating more inclusive workplaces and on race-related issues;
  • advice and support for employers to address racism-related issues in the workplace;
  • assistance for employers regarding recruitment, advancement and retention of Aboriginal peoples and members of visible minorities; and
  • networking sessions for employers, unions and local community groups to become partners in creating racism-free workplaces.
