A New Program to Better Protect Workers

The Wage Earner Protection Program (WEPP) Act  and its regulations  were established as part of a broader insolvency reform package that includes new measures to improve the protection of workers whose employers become bankrupt or subject to a receivership.

The WEPP provides timely payment of wages and vacation pay that are owed to eligible workers, up to an amount equalling four weeks’ maximum insurable earnings under the Employment Insurance (EI) Act.

For more information on how to apply to the Wage Earner Protection Program, who is eligible and what amounts are covered, you may call the Service Canada dedicated information line at: toll-free 1-866-683-6516 (TTY 1-800-926-9105) or visit the Service Canada  Web site.
