Retirement Pensions and Benefits
Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security
Almost all of today's seniors receive income from Canada's public pensions: the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and the Old Age Security (OAS) program. Together, the CPP and OAS provide a modest base upon which Canadians can build their retirement income.
International Benefits
Social security agreements are used to co-ordinate the operation of OAS and CPP with the comparable programs of other countries providing old age, disability, and survivor pensions.
Disability Benefits
People who are unable to work because of a severe and prolonged disability may be eligible to receive financial assistance through the Canada Pension Plan Disability Benefit. Individuals do not need to be retired to apply for this benefit.
