Montréal, Quebec—Jean-Claude Fournier nearly lost everything to drug and alcohol addiction. “I was left with no place to live, no furniture and no food. I was going to lose my daughter because I was addicted to drugs and alcohol,” says Jean-Claude.
Upon hearing about La Maison Oxygène, Jean-Claude checked into this safe house with his daughter, who was three-months-old at the time.
“La Maison Oxygène provides a safe home for fathers in need and their children. It also provides them with assistance through an array of programs,” says Yvon Lemay, a Community Worker at La Maison Oxygène.
Within a month of arriving at La Maison Oxygène, Jean-Claude found a job. He is currently self-employed. “Now Jean-Claude is a productive member of society—he has a job, he doesn’t do drugs anymore, and he is happy,” says Yvon. La Maison Oxygène also contributed to the strong relationship between Jean-Claude and his daughter.
Through federal Homelessness Partnering Strategy funding, La Maison Oxygène has provided support to 215 fathers and children in need between 2004 and 2007.
